Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a prayerful, peaceful method of presenting Scripture and the Truths of our Faith to young children in an atmosphere of tranquil joy. It has been used in parishes and schools across the world for more than 60 years. CGS takes place in a prepared space called an Atrium. This space has developmentally appropriate materials for students which will allow them to develop their relationship with Christ through Sacred Scripture and the Traditions of the Catholic Church.

  • Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a faith formation experience for children ages 3-12. It is based on the belief that children can and do experience God.
  • Central to the Catechesis is the Atrium, a special room created to nurture the child’s spirituality with beautiful handmade materials that focus the child’s attention on key moments of the Mass and Sacred Scripture.
  • Children grow in their relationship with the Good Shepherd through through prayer, contemplation of Gospel passages, singing, silence, and more.
